people watch
I found my second “people watch” victim while I was having dinner in the food court at Plaza Singapura yesterday. She and her friend, both Chinese in their 30s, sat next to my table. Thank god she sat opposite me. I decided to observe her and not her friend mainly because of her hair. No offense to her friend though.
She has one the coolest hairstyles I’ve ever seen. It’s very similar to the hairstyle that Sharon Osbourne has except her hair was highlighted brown. I really love her hair. She had a lot of make up on, but she looked really classy, not trashy. Her skin is tanned and she is really tall. She was wearing a pants suit so I kind of figured that she had just knocked off from work. She wasn’t carrying any bag. She only carried had her handphone and wallet in her left hand.
She played with her handphone when her friend left to order food. When her friend came back, she left her phone in her friends care and went to buy her dinner. She walked one big round deciding what to eat and returned about 5 minutes later with a bowl of fish bee hoon soup. She sat cross-legged and then she and her friend started chatting with each other. From the casual conversation I could tell that they were close friends. If my hearing doesn’t fail me, I think her friend called her socks. It’s probably her nickname. I noticed she used her chopsticks with her left hand and held her spoon in the right. She’s most likely a lefty.
Well for now, I’m just going to call her socks since it’s a rather unique nickname. Socks seemed really well educated. She spoke flawless English as well as Chinese. She spoke to her friend in English and spoke to the cleaner in Chinese. She also gestured a lot when she talked to her friend. As a result, her friend finished her food faster than her.
The two of them continued chatting even after they had finished their food. Whenever her friend said something funny, socks would lean back, laugh heartily and clap her hands. It’s a bit similar to the way I laughed. They only left after socks received a phone call presumably from her husband. Before the two of them left, they pushed in their chairs.

This was nice. I’m not as convinced as you she’s an interesting person, but the details you captured were excellent.
